Learning Objectives

At the completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:

1. Explain the pathophysiology of acetaminophen toxicity

2. Describe how to evaluate different N-acetylcysteine dosing strategies for the treatment of acetaminophen toxicity

3. Analyze emerging literature regarding the use of fomepizole for acetaminophen overdose and its potential place in therapy

4. Discuss the role of hemodialysis in acetaminophen overdose

At the completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:

1. Explain the pathophysiology of acetaminophen toxicity

2. Identify different N-acetylcysteine dosing strategies for the treatment of acetaminophen toxicity
